Have you seen the new SCAA flavour wheel? January 28 2016
When you take your first sip of coffee what do you taste? Any flavours stick out to you? The coffee flavour wheel is a tool used to assist baristas when cupping new coffees. You know when you buy a bag of coffee and on the front it explains what flavours you may taste from the coffee? Chocolate, nutty, strawberry with a caramel finish. Delicious!
This deduction is made easier using the flavour wheel. Take a look at the new SCAA flavour wheel and the next time you take a sip of coffee try and see which flavours you pick up.
If the science behind this wheel intrigues you, then take a look at the report done by the World Coffee Research organisation. This report is an explanation of the flavours and how researches identified them.
Before you go, take a look at this explanation of "reinventing the coffee flavour wheel" by SCAA Executive Director, Ric Rhinehart. Read it here.
