This will be the first Regional competition in the 2018 Cycle! This year's Western Cape Barista Champ Regionals take place at the Good Food & Wine Show at the CTICC from 2-4 June 2017. Please note, this is exclusively the Barista Championships.

Right, now you can start planning when you'll be joining us at the CTICC for the Western Cape Coffee Competition this weekend.

Here is your schedule for the weekend. Just to remember that times may be delayed just slightly due to set up and performance times, however you'll get an idea of which day you want to spend with us at the Coffee Lovers Theatre.

Baristas, this will also help orientate you as to the plan for the weekend.

Wed 14th 3pm: Barista Orientation 

9am arrive at venue
10.30am : Cup Tasters Semi Finals. 
12pm : Latte Art Semi Finals.
5pm : Close. 

9am arrive at venue
10.30am : Barista semi finals round 1.
5pm : Close. 

10.30am Barista Competition Semi finals round 2.

Enter the 2016 Western Cape Barista Champs June 10 2016

The Western Cape barista competition has been finalised and will be hosted at the Cape Homemakers Expo from the 15th - 18th September 2016. Set to be another epic coffee showdown we are encouraging all WC baristas to get your entries in ASAP.

Sandy Edwards, Expo Organiser for HOMEMAKERS Cape, said in their press release : “We invite visitors to gather around the coffee aroma at the Coffee Lovers’ Theatre and support our local baristas as they battle it out for the Western Cape regional title.”

It's going to be a great weekend, and we look forward to seeing who will be the next 6 baristas to make it through to nationals at the end of the year. Baristas will each get 15 minutes to prepare an espresso course, cappuccino course and signature drink course for the judges, presenting in time to music of their choice, as they inform the judges of the coffee they're using and what tastes to look for.

We're ready to see the talent coming out of the Western Cape! See you in September.

The final regional competition of the year is happening in the Western Cape.
Hosted by the Homemakers Expo this competition is going to be full of suspense and excitement.

Our last regional competition for the year is the Western Cape Barista Competition. Baristas from around the Western Cape have an opportunity to showcase their talents and skills to a panel of judges, and hopefully make it through to the National Barista Champs.

FREE barista workshop info

The Western Cape Barista Committee is offering a FREE Barista Workshop for baristas that are interested in entering the Western Cape Competition so that they can have more insight on what it is all about, the rules, what is expected from them etc.

The aim of this would be to attract Baristas that have not competed before.

SCASA Western Cape Regionals: 21st - 23rd May May 06 2014

The Western Cape competition is hurtling towards us! The baristas will be showing off their skills from the 21st to the 23rd of May at Hostex Cape Town. Please get your baristas to come and join the challenge, the practice is priceless and the opportunity to represent your country and win some goodies along the way is a good incentive! Are you a Western Cape Judge? April 26 2014

Do you have a keen pallet? Are you passionate about the Southern African coffee industry? If you have what it takes to be a Barista Championship judge, you should know these rules very well and you should be signing up to judge at the Western Cape coffee competitions, held at Hostex Cape Town between 21st - 23rd May 2014.

Please email George Bertolis before Thursday 1st May 10am, if you are available to be part of the judging team! Once we know who is available we will let you know if you are going to be a coffee comp judge.

To judge, you will be required to attend the compulsory judges calibration, tasting and training session on Monday (19 May 2014) You will also need to attend a calibration session each morning before the beginning of competition time as well as the barista debriefing after the championship.

You will be tested on the WBC rules & regulations (Click here to download) and you should have an understanding of WCE rules & regulations. There will also be various coffee taste tests...so practice and prep for the training!

Western Cape Regionals 2014 January 22 2014

The Competition then moves to The Mother City where the Western Cape Regionals will be held at Hostex 2014  from 21st – 23rd May.

Cape Town has a vast depth of baristas, coffee shops and roasteries and it’s citizen’s have a vibrant café culture which always sees a high level of competition.
